Ferry on the Dutch river Waal at very low water level

Ferry Brakel II of the Dutch shipping company Riveer is approaching the ferry sidewalk in Herwijnen. The photo was taken on a cloudy day in the summer from the Waal riverbank of the Gelderland village of Herwijnen. The water level in the river is low and all kinds of stones and rubble are now clearly visible in the foreground. The ferry provides the ferry service with the village of Brakel on the other side of the Waal. At the beginning of August 2022, Riveer is concerned about the low water level of the Waal. If it becomes even lower, there is a good chance that the ferry will no longer be able to transport cars.

De opname is op een zwaarbewolkte dag in de zomer gemaakt vanaf de Waaloever van het Gelderse dorp Herwijnen, gemeente West Betuwe. De waterstand in de rivier is laag en allerlei stenen en puin zijn nu goed zichtbaar op de voorgrond. De pont onderhoudt de veerdienst met Brakel (gemeente Zaltbommel) aan de overkant van de Waal. Riveer maakt zich begin augustus 2022 zorgen over de lage waterstand van de Waal. Als die nog lager wordt, dan is de kans groot dat de pont geen auto's meer kan vervoeren.
