Keeping the place

            The thumb of Sir William Thursby from his monument in the church of St Peter and St Paul in Abington in Northampton. The Thursby family acquired Abington Manor in 1669 and expanded both the house and the church.  William Thursby was lawyer and served as MP for Northampton at the end of the seventeenth century.  He dies in 1700 and his statue stands over the entrance to the family vault.  
As well as sticking his thumb inthe book, he has also folded down the corner of the page.
