Halbinsel Stralau: Saniertes Gebäude der früheren Teppichfabrik Protzen an der Tunnelstraße - Stralau Peninsula: Restored Building of the former Protzen Carpet Factory in Tunnelstrasse

Die Teppichfabrik entstand ab 1865 und ist die älteste Industrieanlage in Alt Stralau. Ab 1920 wurden die damals noch drei Gebäude sukzessive an andere Industriefirmen abgetreten, bis zum 2. Weltrkrieg die Fabrik ganz ihren Betrieb einstellte. Auch nach dem Krieg wurde das einzige noch erhalten Gebäude weiter industriell genutz bis zum Ende der DDR 1990. Nach der Sanierung scheint es Büros zu beherbergen.

The carpet factory was established in 1865 and is the oldest industrial plant in Alt Stralau. From 1920, the then three buildings were successively sold to other industrial companies until the factory ceased operations completely during the Second World War. Even after the war, the only surviving building continued to be used for industrial purposes until the end of the GDR in 1990. After renovation, it now appears to house offices.

Die 1,12 km² große Halbinsel Stralau liegt in der Spree, genauer gesagt, zwischen dem Fluss selbst und der von der Spree gespeisten Rummelsburger Bucht, auch Rummelsburger See genannt. Hier gründeten Fischer das
Dorf Stralow (so der alte slawische Name), das1288 zum ersten Male erwähnt wurde. Stralau war über Jahrhunderte ein Fischerdorf mit elf ansässigen Fischern. Die zunehmende Industrialisierung und der Aufschwung der Gründerzeit ließen in Stralau zwischen 1880 und 1900 eine Vielzahl industrieller und gewerblicher Betriebe entstehen. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg waren die Industrieanlagen weitgehend ebenso zerstört worden wie die Wohnungen, von den Ausflugslokalen blieben nur Erinnerungen. Nach 1990 wurden die vorhandenen Industriekombinate, das Stralauer Glaswerk und die Engelhardt-Brauerei geschlossen. Inzwischen hat sich die Halbinsel zu einem beliebten Wohngebiet entwickelt. In den letzten Jahren entstanden zahlreiche neue Wohngebäude, sowohl Reihenhäuser, als auch zunehmend mehrgeschossige Gebäude meist mit Eigentumswohnungen des gehobenen Standards.

The 1.12 km² Stralau peninsula is located in the Spree, more precisely between the river itself and the Rummelsburg Bay, also known as Lake Rummelsburg, which is fed by the Spree. It was here that fishermen founded the village of Stralow (the old Slavic name), which was first mentioned in 1288.For centuries, Stralau was a fishing village with eleven resident fishermen. Increasing industrialisation and the boom of the Wilhelminian period led to the establishment of a large number of industrial and commercial enterprises in Stralau between 1880 and 1900. In the Second World War, the industrial plants were largely destroyed, as were the dwellings, and all that remained of the excursion pubs were memories. After 1990, the existing industrial enterprises, the Stralau glassworks and the Engelhardt brewery, were closed. In the meantime, the peninsula has developed into a popular residential area. In recent years, numerous new residential buildings have been built, both terraced houses and, increasingly, multi-storey buildings mostly with condominiums of an upmarket standard.
