Catching the Blues at Bradbury 20210405--049

88005 Minerva and 68018 Vigilant pass Bradbury (between Ferryhill and Darlington), working 4M27 05.47 Mossend Down Yard - Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal.

This train was diverted via Berwick, York and Burton-upon-Trent due to planned bank holiday weekend engineering work on its usual route via the WCML. It was one of three DRS trains between Mossend and Daventry (one each way on Sunday, this train only on the Monday) which was hauled by a class 88 and a class 68, the former providing the traction on the electrified section.

Having chased the 67-hauled 1Q18 to Middlesbrough, I'd intended photographing the diverted 4M27 at Sunderland Bridge (south of Durham). But 1Q18 was late and I spent a few minutes replying to an e-mail before setting off - and then realised this train had passed Newcastle early: not getting to Sunderland Bridge in time was looking quite possible... Luckily I'd spotted that the lineside here was clear of vegetation and that the sun angle was correct, so had a back-up location. 4M27 was looped at Ferryhill to be overtaken by an "Azuma", so was only a minute early when it passed this point.
