I don't normally like shots looking down at trains through the overheads, as usually there are wires in front of the train. However, a year or so ago I spotted the possibility for a shot here which framed the train with the catenary, making the catenary an integral part of the image, but had not got round to trying it. With a 91-powered train due south not very long after the NR 153 went north, and the sun getting noticeably more head-on, I decided to give it a go before going home.

I focused on the insulators in the foreground, and considered whether I should deliberately either blur the train by using a slower shutter speed or make it and the background out of focus by using a larger aperture. But I decided on this occasion to do neither, and therefore increased the ISO to 800. I was still surprised the whole image was sharp! I might try a blurred or out of focus version on another occasion.

I did, however, find the train was much smaller in the image than I'd anticipated, so have cropped the original. Taking a burst of images at a rate of 8.3 frames per second meant one of them had the loco positioned perfectly, with the top of the pantograph below the wire which runs across about a third of the way from the top.
