In zweierlei Sicht historisch - a photo on Flickriver

            In zweierlei Sicht historisch ist dieses Bild, welches wenige Tage vor Fahrplanwechsel 2017/18 entstand. So war der Einsatz der beiden Metropolitan-Garnituren auf der Linie Berlin - München in den letzten Zügen. Einst als Metropolitan zwischen Köln und Hamburg im Einsatz, verkehrten sie ab Einstellung des Zuges im Jahr 2004 als ICE und IC auf diversen Linien. Über mehrere Jahre waren die Metropolitan Garnituren so im Frankenwald zu beobachten. Als ICE 1005 (Berlin Gesundbrunnen - München Hbf) erreicht der Zug hier gerade den Scheitelpunkt der Frankenwaldbahn Steinbach am Wald. Zum Fahrplanwechsel 2021/22 schieden die Züge dann komplett aus dem Fahrzeugbestand der DB aus. Wenige Tage später folgte die Überführung ins Stillstandmanagement, bis sie Anfang 2024 dann verschrottet wurden. 
Der andere Aspekt der an diesem Bild ebenfalls historisch ist, dürfte das hier so gesehene Motiv sein. Der Frankenwald hat sich in den letzten Jahren aufgrund Borkenkäferbefalls massiv verändert. Große Teile des Waldes wurden gerodet - der einst so dichte Wald ist stellenweise nicht mehr wieder zu erkennen. 
Achso und ICE's? Seitdem die Rennbahn über den Thüringer Wald eröffnet worden ist, fahren hier nur noch die IC2 Züge. Auch historisch.

Historical in two aspects 

This picture, which was taken a few days before the 2017/18 timetable change, is historical in two aspects. The use of the two Metropolitan trains on the Berlin - Munich line was on its last legs. Once used as "Metropolitan" between Cologne and Hamburg, they ran as ICE and IC on various lines since the train was discontinued in 2004. The Metropolitan wagons could be observed in the Franconian Forest for several years. As ICE 1005 (Berlin Gesundbrunnen - Munich Hbf), the train is just reaching the vertex of the Frankenwaldbahn Steinbach am Wald. When in 2021/22 the timetable changed, the trains were completely removed from DB's vehicle fleet. A few days later they were transferred to decommissioning management until they were scrapped at the beginning of 2024. 
The other aspect of this picture that is also historical is probably the motif seen here. The Franconian Forest has changed massively in recent years due to bark beetle infestation. Large parts of the forest have been cleared - the once dense forest is no longer recognizable in places. 
Oh and ICE's? Since the high speed track across the Thuringian Forest was opened, only the IC2 trains have been running here. Also historical a historical aspect.
