La Dynastie Tang (618-907 apr. J-C) a été un point culminant de la civilisation chinoise au cours duquel la Chine a connu une immense croissance culturelle et économique.
Le cheval y avait une place essentielle. L'élevage des chevaux, développé de façon systématique à partir du VIIème siècle, eut une place politique et militaire considérable durant toute cette période.
Au-delà du rôle militaire essentiel du cheval sous les Tang, la cour a développé un engouement important pour cet animal avec notamment la pratique du polo.
Mais c'est surtout dans le domaine des arts que le cheval a pris la place la plus importante, notamment avec les céramiques et les peintures sur soie.

The Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) was a high point of Chinese civilization during which China experienced immense cultural and economic growth.
The horse had an essential place there. Horse breeding, developed systematically from the 7th century, had a considerable political and military place throughout this period.
Beyond the essential military role of the horse under the Tang, the court developed a significant enthusiasm for this animal, notably with the practice of polo.
But it is especially in the field of arts that the horse has taken the most important place, particularly through ceramics and paintings on silk.
