            The site of the original Preston to Fleetwood railway, Howarth Crescent, Poulton-le-Fylde. Tuesday 10 March 2015.

Looking south-east towards Preston. The Sheringham Way housing development has been built on the old railway land with the road on the former track bed.    

The railway line from Preston to Fleetwood opened in 1840 and on 29 April 1846 a branch off the line to Blackpool Talbot Road (North) station opened. 

Between 1894 and 1896 two and a half miles of new railway lines were constructed in and around Poulton-le-Fylde to replace the original lines. A new railway station (the present one) on Breck Road approximately 400 yards south of the original station was opened on Easter Sunday 05 April 1896 replacing the 1840 station.

A short section of the original line from Poulton Road (now Garstang Road East) to Breck Road level crossing including the original station was retained for goods use. Apart from a very short stub around the old curve immediately west of Breck Road all the old tracks to Fleetwood and Blackpool within the new (1894/1896) alignments were abandoned and lifted. The goods station and remaining short branch line closed in 1968.
