Ranoidea ("Litoria") subglandulosa (New England Tree Frog)

                      New England Tree Frog (Ranoidea subglandulosa) [Arboranae: Pelodryadidae: Pelodryadinae], from Ebor, New South Wales, Australia.

This stream dwelling frog is found at higher elevations on the New England Tablelands of Northern NSW. Having suffered historical declines due to chytrid fungus, the species now appears to be common at most localities. 

Breeding occurs mostly in spring and early summer and calling can occur from late winter, when conditions are still very cold. There were a number of individuals calling last night when air temperature was 1.2 degrees Celsius! Other species also braving the cold were Crinia signifera and Litoria verreauxii.

This species is part of the Leaf-green Tree Frog complex, and is most closely related to R daviesae and R citropa. Other members of the complex include R barringtonensis, phyllochroa, nudidigitus, pearsoniana, piperata, kroombitensis and spenceri. The generic name Dryopsophus has previously been applied to this complex.
