RJB Mining Clipstone Colliery just before closure - 9.iii.2003

RJB Mining Clipstone Colliery on 9th March 2003 - just before final closure the next month. The Colliery was opened by the Bolsover Colliery Company in 1922. It became part of the NCB at nationalisation in 1947. The modern headstocks were installed in 1953 and coal production was at 1 million tons per annum in 1986. Britiah Coal mothballed the pit in 1993 but it resumed production for RJB Mining in April 1994. It finally closed in April 2003. The Headstocks & Powerhouse were awarded Grade II Listed Status in 2000. The Colliery was served by rail links to both the MR Southwell Line and the LNER/GCR Mansfield Railway. The later link served the final days of the colliery from close to Concentration Sidings.
