L’orpailleuse

            Madagascar - Portrait issu d’une série sur les orpailleurs dans la région d’Ambositra. Cette jeune chercheuse d’or passe son temps à fouiller les entrailles de la terre à la recherche des précieuses paillettes. Un travail qui s’effectue en famille. Ses parents ont abandonné la ferme familiale quand elle était toute petite pour se lancer dans l’orpaillage. Une activité pénible physiquement, mais beaucoup plus rémunératrice que l’agriculture. Comme j’avais photographié sa mère alors qu’elle me réclamait des cigarettes, la jeune fille m’a demandé de la photographier seule. Un portrait serré ne m’intéressait pas, alors je lui ai demandé de se placer sur un monticule pour que je puisse avoir une vue sur la mine à ciel ouvert en arrière plan.

Madagascar - Portrait from a series on gold miners in the Ambositra region. This young gold digger spends her time searching the bowels of the earth in search of precious flakes. A job that is carried out as a family. Her parents abandoned the family farm when she was very young to go into gold panning. A physically demanding activity, but much more remunerative than agriculture.
