Vente de cannes à pêche - a photo on Flickriver

            Ambalavao (Madagascar) - Jour du grand marché à Ambalavao. On dit « grand marché » pour le différencier du marché quotidien dont les étales sont rassemblées sur une grande place en terre battue. Le grand marché, lui, s’étend dans les rues et ressemble à une grande braderie.
J’ai été étonné de trouver une vendeur de cannes à pêche dans cette région montagneuse, considérée comme la porte du Sud qui s’ouvre sur une région plutôt désertique. « Et les rivières ? Dans ton pays vous ne pêchez pas dans les rivière » m’a-t-il répondu, mi-amusé, mi-agacé.

Ambalavao (Madagascar) - Day of the big market in Ambalavao. We say "big market" to differentiate it from the daily market whose stalls are gathered on a large dirt square. The big market extends through the streets and looks like a big clearance sale.
I was surprised to find a fishing rod seller in this mountainous region, considered the gateway to the South that opens onto a rather desert region. "And the rivers? In your country you don't fish in the rivers" he replied, half amused, half annoyed.
