[PRESERVED] London Transport V1 - A101 SUU

            Well this certainly came out of leftfield! Property of the North London Collection, the sole attendant of this Bromley Bus Preservation Group subgroup, London's V1 is one of a selection of vehicles produced in 1984 as part of London Transport's Alternative Vehicle Trials (AVE) at Stockwell garage, in the hopes of finding a successor to the venerable Titan and Metrobus types. Three Ailsas were produced for the AVE scheme, one with a unique dual staircase and rear door arrangement, and though orders ultimately did not result, these were later retained at Potters Bar garage and joined by numerous second-hand examples - including some from SYPTE! - as part of the London Northern business unit. Two of those AVE Ailsas - this one and the dual-staircase model - are now preserved... perhaps the Ailsa connection is the reason for this unique drive down?

A bus that certainly caught me by surprise, preserved London Transport V1, a 1985 Alexander RV-bodied Volvo B55 Ailsa, is seen on display at the SYPTE 50 event near the South Yorkshire Transport Trust premises.
