Memories … the summer of 1971 I drove up to the ALKAN, Alaskan highway heading up to Alaska.
But as we were about to make the 1200 mile ( 2350 km) journey from Dawson Creek up the ALKAN up to Fairbanks, Alaska my best friend, Doug , decided to let me know that he missed his girlfriend and was going back to NYC ( they broke up 2 months later. Can you say karma 😊)
Anyhow since it was his car, I told him to drop me off then and there… actually, we parted ways in Vancouver where i stayed for two weeks at a Canadian youth hostel.
Next I hitched down to Seattle where I stayed at another youth hostel. There I met John and we hitched to L.A.
Once in L.A. he broke the big news to me…. He was an escaped convict from Oregon!
But the good news was that if I drove him to Mexico, his mother would sell me the the type of car in the photo above … a Chevy Station Wagon for $50.00.

Next stop Mexico …. Story to be continued later….

PS. I prefer riding motorcycles now 😎
