Class 04/7, locomotive, No. 63841, of Langwith Junction M.P.D., (Shed No.41J), and built by the North British Locomotive Company Ltd, Glasgow, in 1919, and Class 31/1, locomotive, No.D5849, of Tinsley M.P.D., (Shed No.41A), and built by Brush Traction Limited, Falcon Works, Loughborough, in 1962, are seen here, at Langwith Junction Station, on 23/08/1965.
Class 04/7, locomotive, No. 63841, was built by North British Locomotive Company Ltd, Glasgow, to Order No.L704, and Works No.22058, in 1919, as Great Central Railway Class 8K, for the War Department, (W.D. No.2000), and first recorded as being transferred to the London and North Eastern Railway, Hull Dairycoates M.P.D., (Shed Code HLD), on 11/08/1928, where it received the London and North Eastern Railway, number, No.6612. The locomotive was transferred, from Hull Dairycoates M.P.D., (Shed Code HLD), to Hull Springfield M.P.D., (Shed Code HLS), on 23/10/1929; and from there, to West Hartlepool M.P.D., (Shed Code WHL), on 11/05/1940, and from there, back to Hull Dairycoates M.P.D., (Shed Code HLD), on 05/03/1945, and from there, to Cudworth M.P.D., (Shed No.53E), and from there, back to Hull Dairycoates M.P.D., (Shed No.53A), on 01/01/1951, and from there, to Doncaster M.P.D., (Shed No.36A), on 02/09/1951, and from there, to Mexborough M.P.D., (Shed No.36B), on 28/10/1951. The locomotive was transferred, from Mexborough M.P.D., (Shed No.36B), to Langwith Junction M.P.D., (Shed No.41J), on 01/03/1964, and here it would remain, until withdrawn from service, on 07/11/1965. It is recorded that following withdrawal from service, that the locomotive was put into storage, at Langwith Junction M.P.D., (Shed No.41J), until it was despatched, ‘dead’ engine, to Cox & Danks Limited, Wadsley Bridge, Sheffield, on 07/01/1966, and where it is believed to have been scrapped, sometime during April 1966.
The locomotive was renumbered, as No.6612, on 11/08/1928, by the London and North Eastern Railway, then again renumbered, as No.3843, on 24/11/1946, by the London and North Eastern Railway, and then again renumbered, as No.63843, on 05/11/1949, by British Railways. The locomotive was rebuilt, and re-designated, as Class 04/7, at the London and North Eastern Railway, Gorton Locomotive Works, between 13/12/1939, and 03/02/1940.
Class 31/1, locomotive No.D5849, was built by Brush Traction Ltd, Falcon Works, Loughborough, to Works No.385, in 1962, as Class 30/2, and was delivered new, to Sheffield Darnall M.P.D., (Shed No.41A), on 12/07/1962, as British Railways, number No.D1838. The locomotive was transferred from Sheffield Darnall M.P.D., (Shed No.41A), to Sheffield Tinsley M.P.D., (Shed No.41A), on 26/04/1964, and from there, to Stratford M.P.D., (Shed No.30A), on 03/04/1971, and from there, to Immingham M.P.D., (Shed No.40B), on 09/10/1971, and from there, to March M.P.D., (Shed No.31B), on 07/10/1972, and from there, to Crewe Diesel T.M.D., (Shed Code CD), on 15/05/1988. The locomotive was re-designated as Class 31/1, by British Railways, in April 1965, and renumbered, as No.31315, by British Railways, in 1973. The locomotive was rebuilt, and fitted with E.T.H., at British Rail Engineering Limited, Doncaster Locomotive Works, in 1985, and re-designated, as Class 31/4, and re-numbered, No.31462, on 03/02/1985. The locomotive was withdrawn from service, on 01/04/1998, and subsequently acquired by Fragonset Railways Limited, who moved the locomotive to the Tyseley Museum, pending possible refurbishment, before being returned to service. However, the locomotive was cannibalized for spare parts, before being despatched to Ron Hull Junior Limited, Rotherham for scrapping, in July 2006.
