066/365 My Grandfather’s First Son is Born June 17, 1906

For We're Here - Father and Daughter / Son

My favourite part of this diary entry is the second paragraph. Here is the June 17th entry typed out, for ease of reading:

Sunday, 17th June. Gertrude and I got up at 4 in the morning and I went for Dr. Boggs. After breakfast, went for Mrs Williamson [his mother-in-law] and took a hack [taxi] to Woodland Drive for Mrs. Fox. Arrived with her at 9:30. Dr. called 2nd time about noon or before it and stayed till 5:00. At 3:05 p.m. Charles Edward was born.

To realize that I was a father was only one part of the satisfaction of the day. The chief thing was to realize that my wife was one of the bravest, noblest women – although only a child in years – that live.
Another thing was God’s answer to prayer. A healthy child – a mother’s life spared – and moreover a direct answer to specific prayer.

For a long time we have prayed that it might occur by daylight on Sunday 17th or 24th of June. While waiting down stairs, wrote a letter to “Resources.”
