American Kestrel eating praying mantis

            I just got back from a trip to Cape May. Thankfully, the weather cooperated and so did the birds. At one location I spent an hour or so watching Kestrels. They put on quite a show as they hunted either hovering in mid-air, or from a perch. They would drop to the ground and come up with a cricket, dragonfly, or some other juicy insect. As soon as they finished eating, they would catch another. You can't migrate on an empty stomach.
