4-CEPs 1559+1594 east of Marden, Kent.

            A brace of NSE liveried class 411/5 "4-CEP" units no's 1559 & 1594 are seen picking up speed eastbound at Goddens Cottages Foot Crossing  a mile east of Marden station. They are working train 2R14 the 08.30 London Charing Cross to Dover Priory. This service would have been semi fast out of London to Tonbridge then calling at all stations across the Weald of Kent before reaching Ashford and then on to its final destination, Dover Priory via Folkestone.
The leading set 1559 was renumbered in May 1999 to a class 411/9 unit no.1114 and reduced to a 3-car set as these 1957 Express stock units suffered badly from corrosion. Sister unit 1594 behind lasted another 10 years in traffic not being withdrawn from Ramsgate Depot until March 2004 their last year of mainline service for the class and well into the privatised era with Connex South Eastern. It was new to BR in January 1961 so managed a pretty good innings to March 2004, 43 years service.
