            The bald eagle has been the symbol of the United Staes since 1782.  Like many other people, I did not realize that this status was unofficial.  That changed on 24 December 2024, when President Biden signed a bill formalizing this status.  The bill was written by Preston Cook of the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Minnesota, a veteran and eagle memorabilia collector (40,000+ pieces!), who discovered the oversight.  it was sponsored by Senator Amy Klobuchar. It passed the Senate unanimously.
