Borough of Willesden Survey 1949 : Modern industrial development

            Like most other UK local authorities after WW2 the Borough of Willesden produced a local plan - or survey - capturing the condition of the Borough and making plans for improvements and development. For Willesden, a large proportion of the borough having only been developed in the previous two decades, this was a tall order as the spread of suburbia was somewhat against the post-war ideals of town planning. The Survey contains maps plotting the various services available.

This page shows some of the new factories constructed in the Borough most notably on the Park Royal Industrial Estate. This includes No. 1 that was the now demolished Giles Gilber Scott Guinness Brewery, a striking building whose loss was significant. Another building shown is the vast 'modernist' Kemps Biscuit Factory and Bakery, now also demolished, that was on the developing North Circular Road.
