66213 Knottingley Depot 19 06 2006

            Apologies for the quality of the photo. Long distance and really crap first digital camera 🙏 

66213 is in Knottingley Shed for some attention (probably its regular A-Exam).

Built in 1999 at EMD with a works number of 968702-213, 66213 was delivered 19 April 2000 to Newport, Wales and basically in service within a week.

EWS – English, Scottish & Welsh Railways ordered 250 of these locos on a lease to buy contract with LC - Locomotion Capital Ltd., London (later became Angel Trains Ltd., London)

In late 2007, EWS was sold to Deutsche Bahn and is now DB Cargo UK.

Sometime around the mid-2010s, DB triggered the purchase part of the lease contract and became full owners of their remaining DB Sheds.

EWS in the mid-2000s also created a French Freight Operating Company to compete with SNCF (called ECR - Euro Cargo Rail SAS, Paris [F]). 

Since 2021, ECR’s name changed to DB Cargo France SAS.

66213 wasn’t in the early transfers to ECR in France (2006/ 2007), but it did join them in October 2016.

In total 40 of the batch 66201 to 66250 have spent time in France. Most are still there (1 back to the UK and 1 sent on to Poland).
66213 received the UIC number 92 70 0066 213-4 GB as it is still a UK registered loco.
