Sandhill Crane -- Antigone canadensis

            Steuben County, Indiana.

While taking photos of swamp sparrows, a pair of cranes did a nice circular flyover. Serendipity!! I really like the color of summertime sandhill cranes with the rusty colors in their feathers. It's my understanding that they "paint" themselves with muddy materials from the marshes that have rust colored iron matter in them. Whatever the case, I like the effect. Also, this time of year must be a time for molting feathers. This pair has many missing feathers in their wings.
