Hoek Kolk en Oude Delft

            Delft is een van de oudste steden van Nederland, die al in 1246 stadsrechten kreeg door graaf Willem II. Ondanks een grote stadsbrand in 1536 was Delft tegen het einde van de zestiende eeuw een van de belangrijkste steden van de Republiek. Binnen de geschiedenis van Nederland is Delft vooral bekend doordat Willem van Oranje er vanaf 1572 heeft geresideerd en er in 1584 werd vermoord. De Oranjes worden sindsdien traditioneel in Delft bijgezet. De bijnaam van Delft is de Prinsenstad.

Delft is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, which was granted city rights by Count Willem II in 1246. Despite a major city fire in 1536, Delft was one of the most important cities in the Republic by the end of the sixteenth century. Delft is best known in Dutch history because Willem van Oranje resided there from 1572 and was murdered there in 1584. The Oranjes have traditionally been buried in Delft ever since. Delft is nicknamed the Prince's City.
