            This is The Old Consulate Inn, a gorgeous Victorian house (now a B&B and on the National Register of Historic Places) that once housed the German Vice-Consul, hence its name. In Washington state's early days, Port Townsend was a thriving port and a required customs stop for all ships entering Puget Sound.  It had hopes of becoming a great city once the railroad arrived. However, when the railroad line was terminated farther south at Tacoma, it also ended Port Townsend's big time dreams.  These days, PT is a wonderful place to visit with lots to see and do in its charming Victorian setting.
