            Joe is a slang term for coffee in English.  Taken at the Old Consulate Inn, a B&B in Port Townsend, WA.

Did some more searching and Joe for coffee seems to be mostly American English. Three popular origin stories - the term came from the American Secretary of the Navy (Adm. Josephus), who banned alcohol and substituted coffee on navel ships in the early 1900s; came from the association with American WWII soldiers often called GI Joes; a portmanteau of two popular coffees - Java and Moka - leading to Jamoka, shortened to Joe.
