Narrowboat pit stop. - a photo on Flickriver

            The busy premises of Stoke on Trent Boat Building Co Ltd at Longport Wharf beside the Trent and Mersey canal as it winds its way from Etruria towards the Haregate tunnel. The bridge carries Newcastle Street over the canal.
The two old buildings behind the shed, with the red doors, are the old warehouses of The Mersey, Weaver & Ship Canal Co where it unloaded goods for transport to and from the nearby towns of Burslem and Tunstall. These date back to approximately 1840.
The top of the bottle kiln seen roughly in the centre of the shot belonged to the Price Kensington pottery works.
The warehouses are grade Ii listed and the bottle kiln and associated teapot works grade II* listed.
The Trent and Mersey canal was opened in 1777 allowing goods to be moved along its 93 miles from Preston Brook to Shardlow. Raw materials could then be transported from Liverpool on the West coast and Hull on the East, and finished products of the pottery trade exported along the same routes.
