No '1'. Railway elegance ........ - a photo on Flickriver

Built at Doncaster in 1870 to a design by Patrick Stirling, GNR 'A2' Class 4-2-2 No '1' stands in the hall at the NRM York.

Known generally as the 'Stirling Single' it epitomises the elegance of late C19th British railway locomotives.
