U. S. Navy Destroyer Carney Docked Next to Cunard's Queen Mary 2 in St. Kitts

USS Carney (DDG-64) is the 14th Arleigh Burke-class destroyer in the United States Navy. The ship is the first to be named after Admiral Robert Carney who served as Chief of Naval Operations during the Eisenhower administration.

Carney was laid down 3 August 1993 at Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine. She was launched 23 July 1994 with Betty Taussig, daughter of Admiral Carney, as sponsor. She was placed in commission 13 April 1996 and is homeported in Mayport, Florida.

Showing the relative size of the two ships . . . The Destroyer is certainly dwarfed by the huge Ocean Liner (Cunard's ships are all classed as "Ocean Liners" rather than "Cruise Ships")

At the exact moment that this photo was taken, The QM2 was the largest passenger ship afloat . . . of course this distinction normally lasts for only a couple of weeks - until the next Mega ship is launched.

My wife and I were passengers on the QM2 and had gotten off to visit St. Kitts and to travel by water taxi over to Nevis for the day.
