Autumn Whirlpool

Patience was key for capturing this colorful scene at Garwin Falls in Wilton, NH. I arrived here early in the morning hoping to get some good shooting in before the mid-day light became too harsh. I also planned the visit around some recent rain we had to make sure the falls would be raging, and of course waited until the leaves were just about at peak color.

After trying some different compositions, I soon realized that I needed to cross the river to go home with something really good. Of course, this resulted in some wet sneakers after slipping off a log that spanned to the other side. But I made it in one piece and continued shooting.

I knew I wanted to capture the slow spinning pools and that the leaves floating in the stream would make for some nice long exposure material. Trial and error finally led me to this composition which I was most happy with. I hope you like it too.
