Missabe Monday: SD38 extra

            There were a bunch of odd moves on the Missabe over the course of the fall but this was the only odd move that actually looked like a Missabe train.

I was in Proctor on Friday after I chose to elevate an attendance violation to an investigation on general principle. I don't really get to Proctor or Duluth too often anymore unless something is going on because I've been hanging out on the Keenan board. So after the investigation I had a couple spots to show some visiting friends around in the ports before heading back north. Heading back I decided to swing through Proctor because I had an idea that the extra 0930 R926 they'd called might be running limestone. 

Welp, 215 had been parked at the diesel that morning but was no longer there. It's trail of exhaust tipped off it's location in the middle yard where it was hooked up to a string of Difco side dumps that are used in winter Minntac limestone service. Very interesting. 

I posted up in the parking lot for about half an hour before they started to pull. I went straight to Kirkus Street and waited and waited as they stopped at 2nd and shoved back. TrainMon still showed them having lights to Missabe Junction so I figured it was only a matter of time and lo and behold they rolled around the bend and under my position at solar noon, 1300. Looks pretty damn good for the highest light of the day!
