061116-M-9827H-076 Zhanjiang, People’s Republic of China (Nov. 16, 2006) - A marine with a People’s Liberation Army (Navy) (PLA(N)) marine regiment, fights through a combat obstacle course at a naval base here as part of a day of marine capability demonstrations held for Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Adm. Gary Roughead. Several other U.S. military personnel attended, including USS Juneau (LPD 10) Commanding Officer, Capt. John D. Alexander, and a senior officer with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). The demonstration is part of a multi-faceted port visit for Juneau and upcoming search-and-rescue exercise (SAREX) with PLA(N) assets meant to foster mutual understanding, transparency and cooperation between both nations and navies.
