Bronx Brick Tenement - a photo on Flickriver

Bronx Brick Tenement

            The building in this photo, 1805 Clinton Avenue, is located at the southwest corner of Clinton Avenue and E. 175th Street, one block north of Crotona Park in the Bronx, New York City. The name "Fairmount" is engraved above the entryway.

According to an item in the 9 January 1904 issue of the Real Estate Records and Buyers Guide, this “brick tenement” was designed by architect M.J. (Michael John) Garvin for developer George J. Fernschild. Garvin was a prominent architect in the Bronx around the turn of the century and among his other works is the Haffen Building, a 7-story office building completed in 1902 that is considered one of the borough’s first “skyscrapers.”
