            Atlantic Coast Line EMD F2A  324 & F2B 324-B diesel electric locomotives with an evening departure passenger train, most likely train 38 between St. Pete and Jacksonville (aka: Jax Mail) is seen at the downtown station in Saint Petersburg, Florida, April 1956, photo courtesy Tom Pacluvcik.  Usually train 38 would be spotted on the track further to the right, but not always.  My determination for the train assignment number is that the number of head-end cars on this train is very typical for this 7:30 PM departure train.  Normally this train has a P&B combine along with one or two coaches.  You don't often see too many EMD F2 locomotives because not many were manufactured, plus they still had most of the guts from the older FT locomotives, including their lower hp.  The ACL had 12 A-B unit sets of F2 locomotives.  Both the A-unit and the B-unit carried steam generators.  Do recall when the ACL West Coast Champion # 191, back in 1955, arrived at the downtown station in Saint Petersburg with an EMD F2A along with two F2B locomotives and 14 cars, where normally E-units were used on this train, however; occasionally some FP7's would show up.
