            Five Islands (Colchester County), N.S. is located between the East River and the Colchester - Cumberland county line, on the north side of Minas Basin, in central Nova Scotia. It was so named because of the five Islands located about a mile offshore: Moose, Egg, Diamond, Long and Pinnacle islands. The population in 1956 was 216.

- from "Lovell's Gazetteer of the Dominion of Canada (1908)" - FIVE ISLANDS, a post settlement, with a port at Minas Basin, at the western end of Colchester County, N.S., on several small streams flowing into the north shore of Minas Bay, 12 miles east of Parrsboro', where a short railway connects northward with Spring Hill Jet., on the Intercolonial RR. The vicinity is rich in minerals, coal and marble. The five islands that give the name to the village and are picturesquely situated about 2 miles off shore, where agates and amethysts are to be gathered. The village has 4 churches (Episcopal, Presbyterian, Methodist and Baptist), 2 stores, 2 hotels, 2 saw mills, besides telephone offices. The population in 1908 was 600.

The Postal Way Office at Five Islands opened in 1851 - it became a Post Office - 1 July 1871.
