RNA? - a photo on Flickriver

RNA?

That's one way to describe the spiral staircase at the National Academies building on 5th St. According to its Web site, the staircase is modeled on a single strand of RNA. Two mirrors, placed at the top and bottom of the eight-story structure, produce the illusion of infinity.

A friend, who's a fellow there, said the staircase has no supports, and consists of a single pour of concrete. It's truly an amazing feat of engineering, and there's a definite sense of awe when you walk in the atrium.
