            Male American Rubyspot, Hetaerina americana,  38 - 46 mm. / 1.5 - 1.8 in.  Clear, swift-running, sometimes rocky streams and rivers of all sizes with shore vegetation for oviposition.  COMMON on open streams, wooded streams with lots of sun and irrigation canals in arid habitats.
