The Palace of Culture, Dresden, Saxony

            The Soviet 'Kulturpalast' (Palace of Culture), Altmarkt, Dresden, Saxony, Germany, 28 September 2015. One of the few major public buildings built by the Communists in Dresden in the East German era.The building was designed by Wolfgang Hansch in Socialist Classicist style and opened in 1969. After Unification, it beame apparent that the fire safety system was inadequate with the result that when concerts were taking place fire engines had to be stationed outside as a precaution! It closed in 2007 and was entirely reconstructed to modern standards, reopening in 2017. Renovation was taking place when this photo was taken.
