37901 Trowse Junction

            Two pigeons fly away as they hear the Mirrlees thrash from Europhoenix 37901 Mirrlees Pioneer working 5Q42 1330 Yarmouth C.H.S. to Crewe South Yard through Trowse Junction, conveying a rake of six Eastern Rail Services Mark 3 coaches to be used for testing the new Rail Operations Group Class 93s. 5Q42 had left Great Yarmouth carriage sidings 27 minutes late, and was therefore routed via Reedham instead of the booked Acle route, but was only five minutes behind schedule at this point thanks to some pathing time on the Wensum Curve.

In 1986 four Class 37s were modified with Mirrlees MB275Tt engines as a testbed for a new Class 38 locomotive project; two further locos were fitted with Ruston RK270Tt engines in 1987; all six featured additional ballast weights to aide adhesion The Class 38 project didn't come to fruition but three of the Class 37/9s survive. The modified roof of the Class 37/9 can clearly be seen from this angle.
