▶ "The northern mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos) is a mockingbird commonly found in North America (a group of New World passerine birds from the family Mimidae). The northern mockingbird breeds in southeastern Canada, the United States, northern Mexico, and the Bahamas, Cayman Islands and Greater Antilles.

☞ Mimus polyglottos has gray to brown upper feathers and a paler belly while its tail and wings have white patches which are visible in flight. The birds weigh 1.4 to 2 ounces (40–58 g), measuring from 8 to 11 inches (20.5 to 28 cm), including a tail almost as long as their body. The wingspan ranges from 12 to 15 inches (31–38 cm).

☞ The northern mockingbird is known for its mimicking ability. A notable singer, it has a large song repertoire that ranges from 43 to 203 song types. It imitates not only birds, but also other animals such as cats, dogs, frogs, crickets and sounds from artificial items. The northern mockingbird is also known for its intelligence. It is able to recognize individual humans — particularly noting those who had previously been intruders or threats. The birds aggressively defend their nests and surrounding areas against other birds and animals, and, sometimes, humans."
