▶ Completed in 1907, the Decatur Waterworks once treated water from the South Fork Peachtree Creek and Burnt Fork Creek for drinking water for the city of Decatur, Georgia. During World War II the facility was used as the exclusive water supply for the Naval Air Station that is now Peachtree-DeKalb Airport and an Army hospital in the area. The waterworks were abandoned in the late 1940s and are now in disrepair, partially overgrown, and covered with graffiti.

The entire Decatur Waterworks area has been added to the National Register of Historic Places, due to its former industrial significance as a waterworks, its political importance during the Great Depression as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project, and its use then and now, again, as a public park.
