Hazard Trees Break

            About a year after a wildfire rips through a big forest, the dead interior of the tree (cellulose) begins to break down and weakens the standing tree. Any good, constant winds (above 25mph) can bring down these hazardous trees by breaking in half.

This broken pine tree is next door to our house and luckily landed on a dirt pile in the driveway. There are literally millions of these dead, standing trees all over our burnt forest. It will take decades to remove them all, so expect the Northern Sierra Nevada mountains to look a lot different. 

Regrowth to a beautiful, dense forest again will take 100 years or more. Think about that the next time you see another wildfire burning.
