Naples: Roman viaduct at Salvator Rosa: 18

            The seven-arched Roman bridge crossed a gorge to carry a spur of the road named the Via Antiniana or Via Puteolis-Neapolim per colles that connected Naples and Pozzuoli; this spur probably led to a large villa. The bridge, dated broadly to the Imperial period (2nd c. CE?) is built in concrete faced with brick and small tuff blocks, with brackets in piperno to support the centering for the arches. The remains of the bridge were discovered during work for the construction of the metro station at Salvator Rosa, englobed in a building of the 18th century. Part of the animal mangers of this latter is conserved in one of the bays of the bridge.
