"Making a Big Thing Out of It Would Have Been a Good Idea"

            Stonehenge, probably the best-known Neolithic monument in Great Britain, dating back to 3100 BCE.My wife and I had paid a visit here over 20 years ago on our very first trip to the UK, and we decided to drop in again with the kids on our visit this summer (the kids really wanted to see it.) The site was quite a bit busier than it was on that first visit (which, admittedly, was in February and not late July), but you actually get a bit closer to the stones now than you did then. It's an impressive site with a long history, but I prefer the more out-of-the-way places we've visited; there's something to be said for being able to get right up to the stones themselves.  I had hoped to get over to Avebury, too, just to dust off my memories of the old Children of the Stones TV series, but our schedule didn't allow for that to happen.

And yes, I was quite pleased to see Nigel Tufnel on the wall o' quotes at the visitor center.
