Fort Hommet Gun Casemate Bunker

Chez nous, en tant que témoins indirects de la défaite peu glorieuse de 1940, les blockhaus du Mur de l'Atlantique sont dans l'ensemble(*) abandonnés, transformés en latrines nauséabondes et couverts de tags de plus ou moins bon goût. A Guernesey, ce sont des monuments historiques conservés avec le plus grand soin.

(*): soyons justes, certains blockhaus de la côte française ont été transformés en musées [www.vacancesvuesdublog.fr/top-10/top-10-des-blockhaus-du-...]. D'autres servent de "marqueurs d'érosion" du littoral.

In France, as indirect witnesses of the less glorious defeat of 1940, the blockhouses of the Atlantic Wall are mostly abandoned(*), turned into smelly latrines and covered with more or less good taste tags. In Guernsey, they are historical monuments preserved with the greatest care.

(*): let’s be fair, some blockhouses on the French coast have been turned into museums. Others serve as coastal "erosion markers".
