Mating sandhill cranes (Antigone canadensis formerly Grus canadensis, Gruidae) are calling out because their colts are nearby.
A stand of last year's phragmites grass or common reed (Phragmites species, Poaceae) with a few cattails is glowing golden behind the birds.
