This is one of the most satisifying images I have ever captured, and I can honestly say one of the most tiring.

We headed down to this location for sunset, around 7pm, with the promise that the Aurora was going to make an appearance at some stage that night.

Well, sunset was a fizzer, and the bus loads of tourists left quickly, until it was just myself and my poor wife, sitting there on a clifftop, in freezing windy conditions, waiting and waiting and......well, waiting..

At 11pm, I decided to pull the pin, and we headed back to our hotel at Port Campbell.
I set my alarm to go off on every hour from 1am till 4am.

2am...check apps...nothing
3am...check apps...nothing
4am...check apps...Chaos in the sky!!!

Back into the car, a 12km dash down the road to the shoot location, and the sky just lit up!! It was an amazing sight to witness. 
At this stage, this was my very first sighting in my lifetime of an Aurora, and it was exhillarating to say the least.

Thanks to my wife Monique for putting up with my persistence to get this image, and being my wingwoman. 

For the togs, settings used were:
ISO 1600
10 sec shutter
F1.8
Light painted the foreground with my torch, one sweep.
