Apollo 16's Charlie Duke was in the Netherlands to open the NASA: A Human Adventure exhibition at Jaarbeurs Utrecht, in which Dutch space industry has prominent displays on show and ESA has a special display hall.

At the opening ceremony on 20 June, General Duke met ESA astronaut André Kuipers and Head of ESTEC Franco Ongaro. On 21 June, General Duke visited both ESA's ESTEC technical facility and its Space Expo visitor centre in Noordwijk, the Netherlands.

Charlie Duke was the Lunar Module Pilot on the fifth Apollo lunar landing mission, Apollo 16, in April 1972. He was the tenth man to walk on the Moon, and spent nearly three days on the lunar surface.
