            It ha sbeen five years of at least weekly rust hunting and not once had I even seen a no 7 jointer plane in the flesh. And then lightning strikes.
This is not a very old plane and it's not a legendary maker or model. But to me this still is a very good find.
This Woden W7 jointer plane was likely made in the late 1950s or early 1960s. It is basically a Stanley design with some additional, mostly cosmetic features. The Woden brand was owned by The Steel Nut & Joseph Hampton and was taken over by Record in 1961.
It is not impossible that this plane was manufactured during Record ownership. 
Nevertheless, this plane is not only a unusual size where I hunt, it is also in unusually good shape.
Yes, it has been used, which was evidenced by shavings stuck in the grooved sole and under the frog. But it seems it has mostly been spending time on a shelf gathering dust and just a sligth amount of light surface rust. So the plane is almost as good as new. Of course the owner must have taken the plane through it's initiation by spilling a few drops of fluid of uncertain origin onto the plane, but apart from this and a few scratches and minor dents to the japanning, this plane is as unused as I'll ever see one.
Woden is not a new acquaintance to me. I've had a no W6 and several W78s, which in my opinion are the best variations of that model ever made. And I've always liked the Woden planes i've dealt with. They're well made with precise and even castings, good steel in the cutters and a certain air of style.
This plane has been cleaned, mostly with just soap and water, but the sides and sole have been gently scrubbed with Autosol and fine steel wool. It was one of the easiest jobs I've ever made.
