Along the Waterfront

            The eastern waterfront of the Port of San Francisco, along the San Francisco Bay, sits atop an engineered seawall on reclaimed land.  The highest point on the hill in the background, upon which the "Coit Tower" was built, is called "Telegraph Hill".  San Francisco's original shoreline ran south from below this point and inland to present-day Montgomery Street and enclosed a cove named "Yerba Buena Cove".  The cove was filled as the city grew and a large offshore seawall was built creating what is today San Francisco's Financial District.
