6Y-JGH Air Jamaica Douglas DC-8-61 about to blast down runway 28L at London Heathrow

The Douglas Collection The regular aircraft used on the Air Jamaica to London Heathrow flights in the 1970s and early 80s was DC-8-62 6Y-JII. However, on occasion they used one of their two stretched DC-8-61s - as seen here in the shape of 6Y-JGH about to blast down runway 28L on an overcast day, working flight JM002 to Kingston. The Queen's Building Roof Terraces can be clearly seen to the left of the frame, along with approaching Air India B747 and Olympic A300 on the stand. Not the greatest composition! Those stretched 8s were so long it was sometimes difficult to get them into the frame of my 300mm lens - that's my excuse anyway 😀

6Y-JGH c/n 45912 - Douglas DC-8-61 - originally delivered new to Eastern Airlines in Dec 1967 as N8771 - sold to air Jamaica in Dec 1973 and flew with the airline for ten years. Sold to Aviation Leasing Partners it went on to be leased to a number of airlines as TF-VLW, C-GMXD, 5N-HAS and finally N914BV. It was retired in 1998 and used for parts - eventually being broken up some years later.
